The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) on Monday refused to recognize the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) as representatives of the Palestinian people, Palestinian sources said.

According to the sources, the two groups said there must be an alternative political leadership, instead of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), to lead the Palestinian people.

The sources said until Monday no tangible or positive results had been achieved out of a national dialogue that began on Friday in Cairo, Egypt, in which 12 different Palestinian political groupshave participated.

The representatives of Hamas and Jihad expressed flexibility toward targeting civilians in Israel, but not for stopping Israel'sassassination of Palestinian activists and incursions in Gaza and the West Bank, according the sources.

They also said Hamas and Jihad's commitment to stop attacking Israeli civilians would be secret until Egypt officially informs Israel of the deal, and would be declared if the Israeli governmentaccepts the Palestinian conditions.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Media Center run by the Palestinian Information Ministry also said in a statement that Hamas and Jihad refused to declare a one-year ceasefire with Israel.

The statement said the two movements refused to include in the final statement that the PLO is the sole and legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.

At the end of the dialogue, the two groups also refused to include in the final statement that the PNA is the sole central authority.

The statement said the 12 Palestinian groups "have not agreed onany new date to resume their dialogue" that is scheduled to end in Cairo on Monday night.
