German Ambassador to the United Nations Gunter Pleuger confirmed Monday that weapons inspectors will give another update on Feb. 14.
Emerging from closed-door consultations on weapons inspectors' report, Pleuger told reporters that Germany had consulted with members of the UN Security Council and the two chief weapons inspectors on the proposed update.
He said his colleagues on the council and the two chief inspectors -- Hans Blix and Mohammed Elbaradei -- agreed that it would be "useful" to have one more update before a scheduled briefing on March 27.
Pleuger, whose country will take the rotating council presidency in February, said the 15-nation Security Council would discuss Monday's inspection report in detail Wednesday.
He reiterated that it is the council's common goal to fully disarm Iraq and the goal should be achieved "in a peaceful manner."
But he added that it is up to Iraq to decide whether the disarmament question could be resolved peacefully.
Pleuger urged Iraq to cooperate fully with UN inspectors, saying that the report showed "there was ample space for a better and pro-active cooperation on the Iraqi side."
