South Korean President Kim Dae-jung's special envoy Lim Dong-won arrived in Pyongyang Monday for consultations with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)on the nuclear crisis on the Korean Peninsula.

Lim was greeted by the DPRK side at the Sun An International Airport. He was accompanied by the president's national security advisor Yim Sung-joon and Lee Jong-seok, an expert on the DPRK anda member of President-elect Roh Moo-hyun's transition team, as well as five other officials.

No South Korean journalists were included in his entourage. Limwill kick off talks with DPRK officials at the Paekwawon Guest House Monday afternoon, said a DPRK reporter. However, he gave no other details of the coming meeting between DPRK leader Kim Jong Il and the special envoy.

It is reported that Lim will stay here for three or four days and present a letter from Kim Dae-jung to DPRK leader Kim Jong Il which calls the DPRK to take substantive steps in solving the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.

Early this month, South Korea proposed to the DPRK to send a special envoy to Pyongyang. The proposal was accepted by the DPRK delegation during the 9th inter-Korean ministerial talks held in Seoul last week.

Lim paid a four-day visit to the DPRK last April, which helped further improve the inter-Korean ties.
