Outgoing South Korean President Kim Dae-jung will deliver a letter to the leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Kim Jong Il, on Monday, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.

The letter will be given to Kim Jong Il by Lim Dong-won, President Kim's special aide for foreign affairs, national security and unification. Lim will fly to Pyongyang on Monday and stay there for three or four days.

The letter was reportedly meant to explain the diplomatic efforts of relevant countries in resolving the DPRK nuclear issue and to urge the DPRK to adopt concrete measure to end the nuclear standoff.

Lim will discuss with Pyongyang about the nuclear crisis triggered by DPRK's recent declaration of withdrawal from the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Lim will be in his trip accompanied by seven other senior officials, including President Kim's senior secretary for nationalsecurity, Yim Sung-joon, and Lee Jong-seok, an expert on the DPRK and member of President-elect Roh Moo-hyun's transition team.
