Li Peng Meets Cambodian, Sri Lanka, Pakistani Speakers
Top Chinese lawmaker Li Peng met with his counterparts from Cambodian, Sri Lanka and Pakistan in Beijing Saturday, who are here to attend the Executive Council Meeting of the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace (AAPP).

The three speakers are Norodom Ranarith, president of the Cambodian National Assembly, Joseph Michael Perera, speaker of theSri Lankan Parliament, and Chaudhry Amir Hussain, speaker of Pakistan's National Assembly.
In his talks with the Cambodian lawmaker, Li Peng said that as a former chairman of the AAPP, the prince was expected by its members to make a greater contribution to the Association in the future.
"The people of the two countries have enjoyed a long-term friendship and the leaders of both countries have had a frequent exchange of visits, which have encouraged bilateral ties to develop across the board," Li told Ranarith.
Traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries had deepened, and the frequent exchanges between the twoparliaments had also benefited bilateral relations, Li said.
Ranarith said the Executive Council Meeting improved communication and cooperation between Asian parliaments.
The success of this meeting, he noted, showed that China playedan important role in the AAPP, as well as in regional and international affairs.
Li told Perera that the smooth growth of Sino-Sri Lankan relations lay in the adherence by both countries to the five principles of peaceful coexistence and their mutual understanding and mutual support.
Perera said Sri Lanka was grateful to China for its selfless assistance to Sri Lanka and he suggested the two nations further bilateral cooperation in trade and economy.
In talks with Speaker Hussain from Pakistan, Li said the friendship between China and Pakistan had weathered various ups-and-downs internationally as well as domestically in the past fivedecades.
The National People's Congress of China was willing to further cooperation with Pakistan's parliament and play a positive role inadvancing bilateral ties, Li added.
Hussain noted that Pakistan's parliament was also ready to further cooperation with all sides within the framework of the AAPP. The friendship between Pakistan and China was very solid, hesaid.
