Germany FM Highlights Peaceful Solution to Iraqi Crisis
Germany and Turkey were together searching for a peaceful solution for all the innocent Iraqi people who were in danger, visiting German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer noted in Istanbul on Thursday.

Fischer made the remarks after his meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Abdullah Gul on the Iraqi crisis as well as bilateral relations.
According to a joint press statement issued after the meeting, Fischer's visit in Turkey was part of German efforts to prevent a war against Baghdad.
Fischer praised Turkey for choosing solution of the Iraqi crisisthrough peaceful means, saying Germany was also searching for a peaceful solution.
Initiated by Turkish Prime Minister Abdullah Gul, foreign ministers of six Middle East countries opened their "Regional Initiative on Iraqi issue-Foreign Ministers Meeting" late Thursday in Istanbul, with a view of solving the Iraqi issue through peaceful means.
Asked if Turkey's peace initiative would prevent a war, Fischer told reporters that they were against a military operation because they had concerns.
Fischer noted that their current problem was terrorism and expressed concern over balances in the region.
Later, Fischer also held separate contacts with Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi and Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Saud Al-Faysal.
The German Foreign Minister will proceed to Egypt and Jordan after his brief stop in Istanbul.
