The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) did not oppose South Korean delegation's proposal of re-linking an inter-Korean railway by the end of February, according to South Korean national news agency Yonhap News reported.

In a second working-level meeting on completion of cross border railways and roads held in Pyongyang Thursday, South Korean chief negotiator Cho Myoung-gyon proposed that "The reconnection (of Gyeongui line between Seoul and Sinuiju) should be completed by February."

While Cho's DPRK counterpart Pak Jong Song did not raise any objections to the proposal, said Yonhap.

The two countries on the Korean Peninsula earlier agreed to complete the reconnection of the Gyeongui railway and its adjacent roads by the end of last year and the spring of 2003 respectively.

They also agreed to reconnect the initial 27 km line of the Donghae railway, linking eastern coastal cities across the border, and its 14.2 km adjacent road within an one-year time span from last September.

But the timetable was put off by row between the DPRK military authority and the so-called US-led United Nations Command (UNC) on whether the cross border corridors under the jurisdiction of UNC in the southern part of the demilitarized zone (DMZ).

During the meeting, the two sides also discussed details on the management of the railway system to avoid accidents and exchanged views on the South's proposed provision of equipment and materials.

The meeting was the first plenary of the talks which will last to Friday. The South Korean delegates, who arrived there Wednesday, will return Seoul on Saturday.
