Pakistan on Wednesday expressed its resentment over India's expulsion of four of its embassy officials in New Delhi.
Foreign Office Spokesman Aziz Ahmed Khan termed the move as "highly unfortunate action," according to the Associated Press of Pakistan.
"It is highly unfortunate action. It will only create tensions and vitiate the atmosphere," Khan said.
Khan said that it seems that India is deliberately taking such steps to increase tension with Pakistan.
He recalled that Pakistani diplomats in New Delhi were being harassed over the past one month and Pakistan had lodged formal protest with India on January 7.
However, he said, "we did not release this information to the media because we wished to keep the atmosphere free of tension. Whereas India followed this harassment by baseless allegation of harassment of the acting High Commissioner in Islamabad."
Now, he said, they have taken this step and it is quite obviousthat India is trying to increase tension with Pakistan perhaps "because it gives them internal political dividend."
India on Wednesday expelled two senior Pakistani diplomats and two officials from its High Commission in New Delhi, ordering themto leave within 48 hours.
Indian foreign ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna told reporters the four "have been found indulging in activities incompatible with their official status."
