The ministerial level delegation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to the Ninth Inter-Korean Ministerial Meeting arrived in Seoul on Tuesday.
The ministerial level delegation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to the Ninth Inter-Korean Ministerial Meeting arrived in Seoul on Tuesday.
The DPRK delegation, led by senior cabinet member Kim Ryong-song, Tuesday afternoon arrived at the Incheon International Airport via Beijing.
The delegates left the airport directly for the Sheraton Walker Hill Hotel in eastern Seoul, the venue of the talks which will formally begin on Wednesday and last to Friday.
The South Korean delegation, led by Unification Minister Jeong Se-hyun, will host a reception banquet at the hotel Tuesday evening after the two chief negotiators held bilateral talks.
The high-level talks is the first contact between the two sides since the DPRK announced its withdrawal from the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) on Jan. 10.
Jeong Se-hyun told Xinhua that this time's talks will be a "tough one," and the South Korean side will definitely raise the nuclear issue.
Economic cooperation between the two sides will also figure in the agenda. "We hope the inter-Korean economic cooperation will achieve a nice result before the incumbent government ends its term," the minister said.
The current President, Kim Dae-jung, will pass on his power to President-elect Roh Moo-hyun in late February.
The Eighth Inter-Korean Ministerial Meeting was held in Pyongyang in last October.
