President Mbeki Holds Talks with Chinese Vice Premier
Chinese Vice Premier Li Lanqing said Monday in Pretoria that China is ready to strengthen coordination and consultation with South Africa on developing cooperative links between the Sino-African Cooperative Forum and the New Partnershipfor Africa's Development (NEPAD). Li made the remark during the meeting with South African President Thabo Mbeki in Pretoria.
China to Strengthen Consultation With S. Africa on China-African Forum
Chinese Vice Premier Li Lanqing said Monday in Pretoria that China is ready to strengthen coordination and consultation with South Africa on developing cooperative links between the Sino-African Cooperative Forum and the New Partnershipfor Africa's Development (NEPAD). Li made the remark during the meeting with South African President Thabo Mbeki in Pretoria.
Li said the Sino-African Cooperative Forum and NEPAD share common goals of expanding cooperation and promoting common development. He said the two mechanisms can give impetus to each other.
He said the establishment of partnership relations between China and South Africa has laid a solid foundation and opened up abroad prospect for bilateral cooperation.
He said China places importance on South Africa's important role in the African and international affairs. He said China is ready to further strengthen all-round friendly cooperation with South Africa.
Mbeki said it is crucial for South Africa and other African countries to have China participate in the process of Africa's development.
Noting that the NEPAD projects are under way at present, he said African countries are willing to cooperate with China in water resources development and other infrastructure areas.
He expressed the belief that both NEPAD and the Sino-African Cooperative Forum will play active roles in Africa's development.
