Province, handled 1.8 million standard containers in 2002, up 52 percent over the previous year.
The port's exports topped a record 10 billion US dollars in the first 11 months of last year.
The government of Ningbo attached great importance to the development of container transport and took a series of measures such as simplifying custom procedures and speeding up loading and inspections since the beginning of 2002.
As one of Shina's biggest ports, Ningbo opened 24 new container ocean shipping routes last year, bringing the total number of such routes to 72. Eleven of the 24 new routes are for oceangoing voyages.
The port has built a worldwide container network. There is one ship heading respectively for Europe, North America, Middle East and other major regions each day.
