Another two lawmakers were named as South Korean President-elect Roh Moo-hyun's envoys to mediate the nuclear issue of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK),according to Roh's spokesman on Monday.
The national news agency Yonhap News quoted the spokesman Lee Nak-yon as saying that Lee Hai-chan and Chough Soon-hyung will respectively lead a delegation to China and Russia in the near future.
Prior to this, Roh has tapped Chyung Dai-chul, representative of the Millennium Democratic Party (MDP) at the National Assembly and close aid to the President-elect, as his envoy to visit the United States and Japan to discuss the DPRK' issue.
The DPRK's recent announcement of withdrawal from the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) aroused severe concerns in South Korea.
Roh Moo-hyun, who will substitute the incumbent President Kim Dae-jung as the country's top leader in late February, always advocated the "Sunshine Policy" of seeking inter-Korean rapprochement. He has stressed many times that the crisis must be resolved peacefully through dialogue.
