Russia Keen about Diplomatic Solution to Iraqi Crisis: Official
A visiting Russian diplomat expressed here Saturday that his country has kept contacts with Iraq, Europe and the United States in an effort to find a diplomatic solution for the Iraqi crisis, Jordan's Petra News Agency reported.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Sulatanov made the remarks after a talk with Jordanian Foreign Minister Marwan Masher over the current situation in the region, especially the Iraqi issue.
Sulatanov described the meeting as a sign of Russia's keenness about holding talks with its Jordanian partner.
Masher said the two sides discussed the diplomatic efforts whichare being exerted to prevent a possible war against Iraq.
On Thursday when he was in Baghdad, Salatanov told Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan that Russia is committed to finding a "diplomatic solution" to the Iraqi crisis.
"Salatanov said Russia has fixed stance towards the Iraqi crisis,which is to continue to exert every effort to reach a diplomatic solution and to ensure Iraq's national unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty," Iraqi News Agency reported.
The United States accuses Saddam's regime of secretly developingweapons of mass destruction and is pouring tens of thousands of troops into the Gulf region to back up its threats to disarm Baghdad by force.
While denying US allegation that it has prohibited weapons, Iraqhas accepted the UN Security Council Resolution 1441 that provides for a tougher weapons inspection regime in the country.
The UN weapons experts resumed their hunting for prohibited weapons of mass destruction in Iraq on Nov. 27 after a four-year suspension and have so far searched some 400 suspected sites.
