Hundreds of Egyptians Saturday gathered in downtown Cairo to protest the US threat of war on Iraq and voiced their support for the Iraqis and Palestinians.
The rally is part of worldwide demonstrations in protest of any US-led war against Iraq this weekend. During it one protestor was injured and another arrested by police.
The protestors gathered at Sayeda Zeynab Square, shouting anti-US and anti-Israel slogans and denouncing what they call "the US terror" on Iraq.
An uproar occurred when a group of demonstrators tried to move to join the main part of the rally, which was surrounded by a heavy anti-riot police force equipped with shield and baton. Finally, the police allowed them in.
One of the demonstrators was injured in a low-profile clash with the police who foiled an attempt to break the police line-up.
The injured was rushed to a nearby hospital on a police car.
"We are here to be against the Bush administration. The whole Arab world refuses any US attempt to use missiles to destroy Arab countries," Naji Abo Lnaga, one of the protestors, told Xinhua.
"The Egyptian people are standing with the Iraqi and Palestinian people," he said, while criticizing the weak stances of the Arab governments on the issues of Iraq and Palestine.
"We want to send a message to President Hosni Mubarak that bad politics will lead us to danger," he added.
On Friday, dozens of Egyptian women also held a sit-in outside the US Embassy in Cairo to protest a possible US-led war on Iraq.
