The Civil Aviation College of China says it will recruit 4 females from Sichuan province in mid-western China this year.

China has already had hundreds of female pilots but these have all worked in the military. This is the first time the country is to recruit female pilots to the civil sector.

The recruitment criteria are, however, very strict. All applicants must be between 168 and 175 centimeters in height, and weigh over 45 kilograms. Any disease or physical distortion, however slight, is not acceptable. In addition, the applicants must be pretty.

Successful applicants will receive 4 years of professional training to become a pilot. The college says it will put more than a million yuan into their training. So after graduation, they will first stay on in the school as teachers, before being transferred to the civil aviation sector for a large sum of money. Their salary will be a lucrative one hundred thousand yuan per annum, the same as a male pilots. Females have certain advantages in piloting as they are more thoughtful and courageous, and more careful when flying.
