Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has refuted recent media reports about his step-down, saying that was wishful thinking.

Mugabe made the remark on arrival at the Lusaka International Airport on Tuesday.

It would be anti-revolutionary and disrespectful for people to allege that members of the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front and the opposition Movement for Democratic Change in Zimbabwe are planning ways of removing him from power, he said.

He said the Zimbabwean people voted him back into office less than a year ago and it would be folly for some people to plot his removal from office.

Mugabe came here to witness the honoring of Zambia's first president Kenneth Kaunda as Grand Commander of the Eagle of Zambia, the highest honor in the country.
