The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mohamed ElBaradei, arrived in Moscow on Tuesday for a two-day visit.
During his stay, ElBaradei is to discuss the situations in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Iraq, the Interfax news agency reported.
On Wednesday, ElBaradei will hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and Atomic Energy Minister Alexander Rumyantsev on matters of nuclear nonproliferation and IAEA operation in the DPRK and Iraq, said Andrei Granovsky, head of theForeign Ministry department for international organizations.
Granovsky said Moscow supported the recent resolution of the IEAE, which urges Pyongyang to resume working with the UN nuclear watchdog, but described the move of bringing the DPRK issue to theUN Security Council as "premature."
ElBaradei said he had no intention to ask Russia to pressure Iraq to cooperate more closely with IAEA inspectors.
He was in constant contact with Moscow and other interested parties, he stressed, adding that he was to travel on to Baghdad on Sunday, the Interfax news agency reported.
