Coal Mine Accident in Harbin
An explosion has ripped through a coal mine in northern China, leaving 33 people missing one day after a blast in a neighboring province killed eight miners.

The blast occurred on Saturday in the Baoxing Coal Mine in Harbin, the capital of northeast China's Heilongjiang province.

Rescue teams say it's difficult to determine whether the 34 missing miners can be saved. The explosion destroyed the shaft, preventing rescuers from reaching the accident site.

In the neighboring province of Jilin, an explosion in a coal mine in Baishan was blamed on a natural gas leak on Friday.

Two more bodies were recovered Saturday from the coal mine, bringing the death toll from the Friday accident to eight.
