About one million Pyongyang citizens held rallies throughout the city on Saturday in support of the withdrawal of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) from the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

About one million Pyongyang citizens held rallies throughout the city on Saturday in support of the withdrawal of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) from the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Hong Song Nam, Premier of the DPRK Cabinet, read the statement issued by the DPRK government about pulling out of the NPT. This was followed by speeches by representatives from all walks of lifeat Kim Il Sung Square, the main meeting place.
The speakers said the DPRK government took the legitimate measure to protect the sovereignty and the dignity of the country.
Similar rallies and protests were held at Triumph Square, JucheTower Square and Mananyongdae School Children's Palace.
The DPRK pulled out of the Non-Proliferation Treaty on Friday, which the country joined in December 1985. Pyongyang dropped out of the treaty in March 1993 but returned to the pact in October 1994 under the Agreed Framework reached with Washington in Geneva.
