DPRK to Reactivate Yongbyon Nuclear Reactor Within Weeks
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will reactivate the Yongbyon nuclear reactor to produce electricity "in a few weeks, not a few months," said Son Mun San, DPRK counselor for relations with the International Atomic Energy Agency, on Saturday.
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will reactivate the Yongbyon nuclear reactor to produce electricity "in a few weeks, not a few months," said Son Mun San, DPRK counselor for relations with the International Atomic Energy Agency, on Saturday.
Last month the DPRK government expelled the United Nations' inspectors and said it was reactivating the Yongbyon nuclear reactor to generate electricity for which it was in extreme need for its economic development.
But countries including the United States said the reactor could produce little electricity and was capable of making weapons-grade plutonium. The crisis worsened when the DPRK announced its withdrawal from the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) on Friday.
