Beijing's GDP up 10.2 Percent

The gross domestic product (GDP) of Beijing, China's capital, rose 10.2 percent year-on-year to 313 billion yuan (37.71 billion US dollars) in 2002, the municipal statistics bureau announced Friday.

The gross domestic product (GDP) of Beijing, China's capital, rose 10.2 percent year-on-year to 313 billion yuan (37.71 billion US dollars) in 2002, the municipal statistics bureau announced Friday.

It said investment in fixed assets rose an estimated 18 percentto 180 billion yuan (21.69 billion dollars) last year, fueled by the city's preparations for the 2008 Olympic Games.

Thanks to vigorous efforts to improve the environment in 2002, Beijing had bluer skies and cleaner air, the bureau reported.
