Shanghai Port Records Surge in Exports
East China's Shanghai port reported 81.8 billion US dollars worth of exports in 2002, an increase of 20.3 percent over the previous year, according to Shanghai Customs statistics.

Exports by foreign-funded enterprises jumped 26 percent to 39.5billion dollars, accounting for the largest portion of the exports.
State-owned enterprises followed closely with 32.8 billion dollars, up 6.1 percent year-on-year.
Exports to the United States rose 24.9 percent to 17.5 billion dollars in 2002, making the United States the largest destination of goods from the Shanghai port. Japan was a close second, with 15.9 billion dollars, up 8.2 percent.
Spurred by China's entry into the World Trade Organization, textile exports from Shanghai port jumped 30.6 percent to 8.1 billion dollars, and garments and accessories rose 10.9 percent to17.4 billion dollars in 2001.
