Yao Ming Leads Rockets to Win over Magic 91-81

Chinese star Yao Ming had 23 points and 11 rebounds as the Houston Rockets broke an 11-year losing streak in Orlando to beat the Magic 91-81.

Chinese star Yao Ming had 23 points and 11 rebounds as the Houston Rockets broke an 11-year losing streak in Orlando to beat the Magic 91-81.

Steve Francis scored 12 of his 16 points in the third quarter and Cuttino Mobley had 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Eddie Griffin added 12 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots.

The Rockets made 25 of 26 free throws and held a 52-34 advantage in rebounds, but turned the ball over 22 times.

In Indianapolis, Ron Mercer scored 19 points, Reggie Miller had18 and Indiana came away with a 89-87 victory as New York Knicks missed three shots on their final possession.

It was the third straight loss for the Knicks, all of them coming when they failed to convert in the final seconds.

Wizards routed Bulls 101-98 as Michael Jordan had 14 points, 10rebounds and seven assists.

Mavericks downed Hawks 117-99 in Atlanta. Dirk Nowitzki and Nick Van Exel combined for 18 points during a decisive 20-4 run as Dallas pulled away from Atlanta to improve the NBA's best record to 29-5.

In Philadelphia, Richard Hamilton scored nine of his 29 points in overtime to lead Detroit over Philadelphia, 103-94.

In the day's other games, Minnesota beat Golden State 102-95, Denver defeated Miami 86-76, Boston nipped New Orleans 93-83, Utah beat Phoenix 99-93, San Antonio overcame Seattle 106-95, LA Clippers beat Memphis 103-95.
