Freestyle Skiing Sparkled by Teenage Skiers
Standing at the edge of a snow slope, Wang Cong looked not at his age when he skied down with a series of twists in the men's freestyle skiing team event at the 10th National Winter Games Monday afternoon.

Much beyond his expectation, the 12-year-old Wang claimed the bronze medal for the host team with his teammates. With the medal in his hands, Wang bit the medal to make sure it was not a dream.

"I am so glad for it, as it is my first time to take part in the national games," he said with a smiling face.

"Can you tell me whether the medal awarding ceremony would be broadcast or not? I hope my mother could see me on TV," added the little boy.

Wang Cong is among a dozen of teenagers competing in the freestyle skiing event. Those imp-skiers sprinkled on the Er Long Mountain snow slope have been a spectacular picture during the games.

According to the Organizing Committee of the National Winter Games, 13 skiers under the age of 15 have registered for the freestyle event with the youngest one at 11 while another dozen of kid-skiers watched and cheered for their brothers and sisters in the competition.

Chen Hongbin, coach of Changchun freestyle skiing team, pinned his hope for the future on those skiers, saying that a world champion may emerge from those kids.

"Freestyle skiing demands much tactics and skill, as it is for such sports as diving and gymnastics," said Chen. "It is easier to achieve good results for younger athletes."

However, to some extent, it may also be dangerous for those teenagers to perform composition with high grade difficulties. "All teenagers at the games are required to give simple composition in competition, as they are here mainly to gain experience and competitive mentality," said Chen.

"With more experience and stronger mentality, they are believed to vie for international honor in the future," he added.

Chen's comment is echoed by Wang Cong. "I will be the best in China in a few years," said Wang.
