The Chinese government welcomes students studying abroad to return and develop their careers at home, Vice Minister of Personnel Shu Huiguo said Sunday.
Shu, speaking at a national meeting of personnel officials, stressed that China is in great need of skilled personnel.
The government will try its best to create a favorable environment and provide preferential policies to attract more students and experts from abroad, he said.
Shu said the country is in great need of skilled government officials and managers and technicians in specialized fields, such as high-tech industry, finance, legal services and environmental protection.
Some 450,000 people have studied abroad in the past 20-odd years, one third of whom have come back to China and another 100,000 have contributed to the development of the motherland in various ways.
The ministry of personnel has set up a service center specifically for returned graduates and scholars and about 200 million yuan has been granted for the research of 4,000 scholars and for inviting more than 3,000 experts back home for short-term work.
Shu pledged to create a better environment for skilled personnel in the non-public sector and to protect their legitimate rights and interests.
