Chinese national defender Li Weifeng, who is on a one-year loan in Everton, denied rumours on Wednesday that he has left the English premier league side.

Li, who was loaned by Chinese first division side Shenzhen Ping'an last summer, failed to get first-team chances in Everton and spent most of the time on the bench.

He returned to China before the new year and is nursing an injury and looking after his sick mother in their Shenzhen home.

Reports said there is no sign the center back will return to England to join his Chinese teammate Li Tie and the in-form Everton, who played to a 1-1 draw with Mancherster City Wednesday night.

"I am not back to Ping'an," said Li in a telephone interview with Xinhua. He said the competition in Everton is very fierce, but "I will try my best."

Under the contract between Ping'an and Everton, the Chinese side should pay about 20,000 US dollars in conpensation if Li leaves Everton before the loan ends.
