Death Toll in Chechen Bombing May Exceed 80: Russian Minister

Russian Federal Minister for Chechnya Stanislav Ilyasov said on Monday that the death toll in last week's suicide bombing of the Chechen government headquarters might exceed 80.

Russian Federal Minister for Chechnya Stanislav Ilyasov said on Monday that the death toll in last week's suicide bombing of the Chechen government headquarters might exceed 80.

"The terrorist act left lots of wounded, some of them in a critical condition," Ilyasov said at a press conference.

Suicide bombers rammed two explosives-filled trucks into the Chechnya government building last Friday, killing dozens of peopleon the scene.

The Itar-Tass reported that the death toll in the blasts has risen to 80 so far while other 152 were wounded.

The Interfax, however, reported that the death toll has reached83.

"The families of the dead will get 100,000 rubles (3,145 US dollars) each, and the wounded are entitled to getting 50,000 rubles (1,572 dollars)," Ilyasov said.

He also stressed that there was no need to introduce the state of emergency in Chechnya in connection with the terrorist attack.

Earlier Monday, Chechnya's administration head Akhmad Kadyrov declared three days of mourning, ordering the cancellation of all entertainment including public New Year's celebrations.
