Iraq Vows Fight Against US in Different Way from 1991 Gulf War
Iraq will fight differently this time comparing with the 1991 Gulf War if the United States launches military actions on the Arab country, Trade Minister Mohammed MehdiSaleh said on Monday.
Iraq will fight differently this time comparing with the 1991 Gulf War if the United States launches military actions on the Arab country, Trade Minister Mohammed MehdiSaleh said on Monday.
"In 1991, (the question was) whether we withdraw from Kuwait or not. Here it is whether we give our land or not, whether we give our future or not, whether we give our houses or not. So this is what we are fighting for," Saleh said in his meeting with a Spanishsolidarity delegation.
He said the Iraqi government had prepared its people for a US-led war which could take place "at any time."
Iraqis had been given three months of food rations in advance for storing in case of emergency conditions during the war and another ration would be received by Iraqi families next month, Saleh said.
Earlier this year, Iraqi government started giving out double rations every two months. The rations include flour, tea, sugar, rice, beans, cooking oil and other daily essentials.
"When we fight in the streets, in cities and villages, food willbe available and guns will be available. We will inflict the heaviest loses on them and they will be repelled from our country if they dare to attack us," Saleh warned.
Saleh declared that the Iraqi people had been trained and given weapons months ago to face up the US-led forces.
It was reported that US forces are building up in the Gulf region, and Washington has threatened to lead a military coalition to disarm Iraq if Baghdad fails to meet the requirements of the UN Security Council Resolution 1441.
While denying it has any weapons of mass destruction, Iraq has agreed to the resolution which sets tougher terms for inspections and warns of "serious consequences" if Iraq dose not comply.
