All-China Federation of Trade Unions Elects New Leader

Wang Zhaoguo, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, was elected president of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) at a two-day meeting which ended Saturday.

Wang Zhaoguo, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, was elected president of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) at a two-day meeting which ended Saturday.

Wang replaced Wei Jianxing as ACFTU president at the fifth meeting of the ACFTU 13th Executive Committee that opened Friday.

The meeting was attended by trade union leaders from across thecountry.

In a speech at the meeting, Wang said over the years the Party central leadership had attached great importance to the work of trade unions at various levels, creating highly favorable conditions for their work.

He said the ACFTU had effectively protected the legitimate rights and interests of workers, acting as a bridge between the Party and the working class over the years.

Wang urged trade unions at various levels to improve their work,especially in providing more help for low-income workers.

The ACFTU organizations at all levels should help ensure that low-income workers and their families have a happy new year and spring festival, the traditional Chinese new year, he added.
