Shanghai General Motors Corp. launched two new models of Buick sedans Thursday at the New Shanghai International Exhibition Center.
Acclaimed as the first medium- and high-grade cars tailor-made for China, the two models, Regal GS 3.0 and its flagship version, are priced at 338,000 yuan (40,800 US dollars) and 369,000 yuan (44,600 US dollars) respectively.
The Regal series also have other types powered by engines with 2.5-liter or 2.0-liter displacement, to be put into market in February 2003.
The new versions will substitute current medium- and high-gradeBuicks to help Shanghai GM spearhead in domestic luxury car market,said Chen Hong, Shanghai GM general manager.
The Sino-US joint venture was set up in 1997 by the General Motors and the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation. With thisyear's car sales exceeding 100,000, the company has become one of the largest car manufacturer in China.
According to industry sources, the new Buick models are expected to debut at the world market in GM's Detroit headquartersin January next year.
