Earthquake Jolts NW China's Xinjiang

An earthquake measuring 5.7 on theRichter scale shook Ulugqat county in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region at 20:57 (Beijing time) Wednesday, according to the China Seismological Bureau.

An earthquake measuring 5.7 on theRichter scale shook Ulugqat county in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region at 20:57 (Beijing time) Wednesday, according to the China Seismological Bureau.

The epicenter was located about 20 km southeast of Ulugqat and 50 km from Kashi city proper.

The quake could be clearly felt in Ulugqat county. Staff from the seismological department of Xinjiang's Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture have rushed to the site to assess the situation.
