China's Defense Minister Chi Haotian held talks with Eritrean Minister of Defense Sebhat Ephremmet Wednesday in Beijing.
Chi, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China and a state councilor, said China-Eritrea ties had enjoyed sound progress since the two countries forged diplomatic ties, as well as expanded bilateral exchanges and cooperation.
The two countries had close cooperation and supported each other in international affairs, Chi said.
China was grateful for the support from Eritrea on the issues of Taiwan and human rights, said Chi.
Chi said China would continue efforts in the new century to establish a long-term and stable partnership with African countries based on equality and mutual benefits.
Chi said the Chinese armed forces attached importance to boosting a wide range of exchanges and cooperation between the twocountries' armed forces.
Sebhat said the Eritrean armed forces were keen to further strengthen exchanges with the Chinese side, in a bid to promote bilateral relations.
Before the talks Chi hosted a welcome ceremony for Sebhat, whomhe had invited to China for an eight-day visit.
