'Taiwan Independence' Is Doomed to Have No Speck of Land: Commentary

The leader of Taiwan authorities, who recently tried hard to visit Indonesia, has failed in his "diplomatic scheme". His deputy, Annette Lu, a "Taiwan independence" element, who did her utmost to instigate this visit, in her awkward and difficult position, deceptively declared "we haven't lost", "the world is so big, why must we go to Indonesia?"

It appears that Annette Lu still does not quite understand: "Taiwan independence" is doomed to have not a speck of land in the world, no matter how large it is. Separatist activities designed to create disturbances in the world and challenge the one-China principle are doomed to end in failure.

Energetically carrying out separatist activities by peddling "Taiwan independence" in the international community is the customary tactics of the "Taiwan independence" elements. For more than 10 years, Lee Teng-hui has been energetically pushing so-called "pragmatic diplomacy", "holiday-making diplomacy", "transit diplomacy", "ceremonial diplomacy", etc., all of which are, in fact, "money diplomacy", and are "Taiwan independence" secessionist activities. They have only one aim: to create in the international community "two Chinas", or "one China, one Taiwan", thereby separating Taiwan from China and striving for international recognition of "Taiwan independence".

Lee Teng-hui has failed. The international community identify the one-China principle, and that "there is but one China in the world, the mainland and Taiwan belong to one China, and China's sovereignty and territorial integrity admit of no division". The overwhelming majority of countries in the world are pursuing a one-China policy. The divisive activities of "Taiwan independence" violate both the history and reality of cross-Strait relations and the international law, are against justice and not in conformity with the generally acknowledged truth. When Lee Teng-hui's true features as a separatist were exposed as he dished out the "two-states theory", his "diplomacy" under a variety of names has also come to its end.

However, Lee Teng-hui's successors to secessionism failed to notice this point. Over the past two years, the Democratic Progressive Party-led Taiwan authorities lacked the ability to "go all out for economy", but were full of vigor in "working for diplomacy", talking glibly about confronting the Chinese mainland with "beacon diplomacy" and looking for international space for "Taiwan independence". Lu served as the vanguard for this. Playing the cards of "democracy" and "human rights", Lu wooed some organizations in North America and Europe, and served as an "uninvited visitor", "forcing her way into" Indonesia, creating a "diplomatic" farce; she also found a stage on her own, holding a "democratic alliance" meeting on the island, inviting people to engage in "diplomatic" activities in the island; Taiwan authorities instigated a tiny handful of countries to table a motion at the World Health Meeting, "inviting Taiwan as an observer to attend the World Health Meeting", and once again raised the demand to the United Nations for accession to this organization; Lee Teng-hui went to Japan for "Taiwan independence" activities under the pretext of "making speeches", etc. His "separatist diplomacy" was no lack of dynamics and "beacon", however, a string of his play serials-like "Taiwan independence" performances all ended in failures. Besides repeatedly courting their own disgrace, "Taiwan independence" elements' biggest gain was letting the international community increasingly see through their true features of attempting to split China.

With regard to the question concerning Taiwan's "international space", the mainland has time and again indicated its hope for an early reunification of the motherland, and that Taiwan compatriots, together with compatriots on the mainland, "share the international dignity and honor of the great motherland". The report delivered to the 16th CPC National Congress also listed the "question concerning the Taiwan region's international space for its economic, cultural and social activities compatible with its capacity" as one of the "three points that can be discussed". It can be said that this has provided a fundamental way out for solving problems.

But "Taiwan independence" elements insist on standing on the opposite side and stage farces of secessionism everywhere, making themselves "trouble-makers" from whom the international community hurry to keep away, they have become a laughingstock and brought disgrace to Taiwan compatriots. This practice of seeking the private gains of a party and oneself in disregard of national interest can only harm the interests of the Taiwan people and cause people to look down upon them.

Seeking an early solution of the Taiwan issue and realization of complete reunification of the motherland is the common aspiration of the entire Chinese people and is an irresistible historical trend, this just cause will definitely continue to have the understanding and support of the international community. If "Taiwan independence" elements insist on seeking "space for division" in the world, then facts will tell them: separation is unpopular, "Taiwan independence" is doomed to have no space for them.
