China Welcomes US Proposal to Cut Non-agricultural Product Tariffs
China welcomes the recent tariff-reduction proposal by the United States concerning non-agricultural products, Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation spokeswoman Gao Yan said in Beijing Friday.
The United States proposed at a World Trade Organization meeting on Dec. 3 that non-agricultural product tariffs of all WTOmembers be reduced to zero by 2015.
China would study the proposal, said Gao at a press conference, expressing China's stance that all WTO members should make due contributions to negotiations under the Doha agenda.
Such contributions should be in line with development levels and the economic capacity of different members, she said.
Better-off members could make early or more contributions to trade liberalization so as to share with other members the benefits from trade reforms, she said.
