Chinese Dominate Preliminary of China Open Badminton Championships

Three Chinese pairs cruised through the preliminary rounds to reach the men's doubles main draw while the hosts made a clean sweep in the preliminary of the women's doubles at the China Open badminton championships Wednesday in Guangzhou.

Three Chinese pairs cruised through the preliminary rounds to reach the men's doubles main draw while the hosts made a clean sweep in the preliminary of the women's doubles at the China Open badminton championships Wednesday in Guangzhou.

Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun rallied from losing the first set to beat Chinese compatriot Xie Zhongbo/Cao Chen 11-15, 15-5, 15-8.

Fu/Cai will take on top seed Jens Eriksen/Martin Lundgaard Hansen of Denmark for a berth in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Guo Zhendong/Sang Yang of China defeated teammate Guo Siwei/Wu Hao 15-6, 15-11 to reach the top 16.

In another all-Chinese affair, Lu Jian/Zhu Lihua ousted Sun Junjie/Xu Chen 15-11, 15-5 to advance.

South Korea's Yim Bang Eun/Kim Yong Hyun became the only non-Chinese pair to enter the main draw after they ousted Yau Tsz Yuk/Wiratama Yohan Hadikusumo 4-15, 15-7, 15-12.

In the women's competition, China's Liu Lufang/Chen Yiying eased past Siu Ching Man/Tang Tsz Wai of Hong Kong, China, 11-3, 11-3 for a place in the main draw which features 16 pairs.

Yu Yang/Liu Qiuming, a 5-11, 11-2 and 11-7 winner over teammate Han Xubin/Lu Pingfang, had to face second seed Pernille Harder/Mette Schjoldager of Denmark on Thursday.

China's Jiang Yanjiao/Zhu Lin advanced at the expense of Li Wing Mui/Wong Man Ching of Hong Kong, China, winning 9-11, 11-4, 11-2.

Du Jing/Rong Lu, who won the women's doubles title at the world junior championships last month, shut out their Chinese compatriotLiu Jian/Li Wenyan 13-10, 13-10 to set up a clash with top seed Gao Ling/Huang Sui on Thursday.
