PLA Chief of General Staff Hold Talks with Kuwaiti Counterpart

Liang Guanglie, chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), held talks Wednesday with Alimohammad Al-Mumen, his counterpart in the Armed Forces of Kuwait.

Liang Guanglie, chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), held talks Wednesday with Alimohammad Al-Mumen, his counterpart in the Armed Forces of Kuwait.

Liang, also a member of the Central Military Commission, said bilateral relations between China and Kuwait have developed smoothly since diplomatic ties were forged between the two countries in 1971.

In recent years, exchanges between the two countries' armed forces have increased and the areas of cooperation have expanded, he said.

The Chinese armed forces value the friendly relations with their Kuwaiti counterparts and are willing to expand exchanges andcooperation, Liang said.

Liang briefed the guest on the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the foreign and national defense policies of China.

Al-Mumen said that China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has always supported the security and sovereign integrity of Kuwait.

He expressed his belief that with the joint efforts of the two sides, the friendly relations of the two countries will further develop.
