Two sets of inter-Korean railways and roads will be relinked as scheduled, according to a joint statement released at an inter-Korean working level meeting which ended on Tuesday.

South Korea and Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held such talks on Dec. 15- 17 at Mount Geumgang in DPRK to discuss details of the reconstruction after the de-mining work in the demilitarized zone (DMZ) finished last Saturday.

The two sides called for bilateral cooperation in providing materials and equipment for the Gyeongui railway (Seoul-Sinuiju) in the west and the Donghae railway in the east coast of the Korean Peninsula, the South Korean national news agency Yonhap News quoted the statement as reporting.

The two sides also said they would open a temporary road to transport personnel and equipment required for the construction ofan industrial complex in Kaesong just north of the demilitarized zone (DMZ) in the DPRK, before the construction work begins later this month.

The two countries earlier agreed to kick off the first stage ofthe complex construction in late December.

Moreover, the two sides will take measures to have military authorities of each side agree on the use of the temporal road andanother one in the eastern sector of the DMZ built recently as part of an overland route for South Korean tourists to mountain Geumgang in DPRK, said the agreement.

They will have another round of working-level talks on the railway and road reconnection projects in mid-January next year in Pyongyang.

In August, South and the DPRK agreed to complete the reconnection of the Gyeongui line and its adjacent roads severed in the 1950-53 Korean War by the end of the year and next spring respectively.

They also agreed to reconnect the initial 27 km Donghae railway and its 14.2 km adjacent road within a one-year time span.
