An intellectual property assessment company was set up recently in Shanghai of east China to meet the demand of a rising number of intellectual property transactions in the city.

An intellectual property assessment company was set up recently in Shanghai of east China to meet the demand of a rising number of intellectual property transactions in the city.

The Shanghai Intellectual Property Assets Assessment Company aims to give fair evaluations on patents, registered trademarks and software and other copyrights, in order to encourage cooperation between intellectual property and monetary capital, thus accelerating the development of the "knowledge economy" in the city, according to sources.

As an outpost in China's opening up drive, Shanghai has been attracting the investment of many domestic and international companies which own significant patents and copyrights.

The assessment company will work in accordance with international principles and Chinese laws to protect the rights ofowners of intellectual property, and so to encourage them to develop new technologies, company sources said.
