Saudi Assistant Minister of Defense Khalid Bin Sultan Bin Abdulaziz met Monday with head of theUS Central Air force Michael Musli in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The two officials discussed the military and security cooperation between the two countries in addition to other issues of common concern, SPA said.

The US general's visit to the oil-rich kingdom is part of the continuous bilateral efforts to coordinate at all regional and international levels, SPA said.

Khalid, who is also general inspector of the Saudi military affairs, had met with the chief of US Central Command Tommy Franks during the latter's visit to the region in November.

According to a Saudi-US security agreement signed following Iraq's 1990 invasion of neighboring Kuwait and the 1991 Gulf War, several thousand US military troops have been stationed in the kingdom, the world's largest oil producer and exporter.

However, Saudi Arabia, a key regional ally of the United States, has voiced its opposition to any military strike against Iraq and expressed its unwillingness to allow the US to use its Prince Sultan air base near Riyadh in the event of war.
