Indonesia Never Welcomes Taiwanese Leader
The Indonesian government will never welcome the visit by Taiwanese leader Chen Shui-bian for any purposes, as it has learned that even personal visits are in turn driven into Taiwan's political interests, an Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesman said Monday.
The Indonesian government will never welcome the visit by Taiwanese leader Chen Shui-bian for any purposes, as it has learned that even personal visits are in turn driven into Taiwan's political interests, an Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesman said Monday.
"We have learned from the past that (Taiwanese leaders) often took advantage from their personal visits in Indonesia's tourist resorts for their political interests," Indonesian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Marty Natalegawa told reporters.
"Chen Shui-bian is not welcomed here," the spokesman stressed.
Earlier on Sunday, Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda reiterated Indonesia's policy of one-China policy, saying that he would not allow Chen to enter the Indonesian territories for whatever reasons.
The foreign minister's statement was given following a plan by Chen to visit Yogyakarta province and meet with Governor Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X.
Hassan also noted that Indonesia will never establish diplomatic ties with Taiwan in central or regional government levels.
