China Services Unaffected by Restructuring: United Airlines
United Airlines' services in China will not be affected by its restructuring program in the United States, according to Shanghai sources with the US airline company.
United Airlines' services in China will not be affected by its restructuring program in the United States, according to Shanghai sources with the US airline company.
The world's second largest air carrier filed for the biggest bankruptcy in aviation history on Monday. It makes 42 flights between China and the United States each week and enjoys a fairly high load capacity. Many Chinese have become members of the airline's passenger clubs.
United Airlines said none of its routes from China to the United States would be cut and it would maintain the security and credibility of its service in China, including programs such as Mileage Plus and Red Carpet Club.
Tickets bought by Chinese one year ago are still valid as the airline company is still flying, according to the sources. It will keep its membership of the Star Alliance group of international airlines and code-sharing arrangements with other airlines.
The company will take every possible step to reduce the impact of the restructuring on customers, the sources said.
United Airlines operates about 1,800 passenger flights a day and has the most extensive worldwide network of any airline.
It has cut services and laid off nearly 20,000 workers after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks last year, but has failed to make up revenue lost from the drop-off in business travel.
