United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has sent a letter of congratulation to the 2002 International Human Resources Forum, to be held in Beijing during Dec. 15-17.
Annan said in the letter that he was pleased to see China's efforts to meet challenges in the process of globalization, and hoped that forum would contribute to international exchanges and cooperation in the field of human resources.
"You are making a valuable contribution to advance the understanding of shared values and principles. I am especially pleased to see that specific efforts are being made to identify good practices and projects that will help to advance societal progress," Annan said.
The forum is sponsored by the China Reform and Development Forum Committee and UN-Global Compact China Center, with the support of the Executive Office of the UN Secretary-General and UN Human Resources Bureau.
According to organizers, the forum will explore the latest human resources issues in both China and the rest of the world, such as human resource management, development and training in commercial strategies.
Those due to attend include UN Deputy Secretary-General Maurice Strong and senior leaders of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and some ministries, as well as well-known scholars and CEOs from multinational corporations.
The forum has also received congratulatory letters and support from such dignitaries as Governor-General of Canada Adrienne Clarkson and Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien.
"As one program of the UN-Global Compact, this forum will be held annually," said Fred Dubee, deputy director of the Administration Office of the UN Secretary-General.
