S.Korea Absentee Voting Begins
Absentee voting for the 16th South Korean presidential election started Thursday morning at 490 polling stations nationwide, the National Election Commission (NEC) was quoted by local English TV station Arirang TV as saying.

Some 867,000 voters, or 2.5 percent of the electorate, are eligible to cast their ballots during the three-day absentee voting period by Saturday.
Moreover, the NEC said those who can not cast the vote during this period of time and on Dec. 19 should mail their ballot papers to the NEC no later than 6 p.m.(0900 GMT) on Dec. 19.
While 31,693 military servicemen stationed in remote areas are required to send their votes to the county, city and ward office where they are registered, added the NEC.
There are seven candidates registered to compete in the South Korean Presidential election, among which Lee Hoi-chang from the country's biggest opposition Grand National Party (GNP) and Roh Moo-hyun of the pro-government Millennium Democratic Party (MDP) are two main contestants.
