China's IT industry has more "radiant spots" to show off when counting over the industry development in 2002. It is because of these "radiant spots" that have kept a fine trend for a quick development of the IT industry in China when the world economy is still at a low tide.

One of the "radiant spots" is that by the end of last October the number of telephone users in China totaled a little over 400 million households, up to 404.89 million in all, ranking the first in the world. The telephone has told a popularity of 31.99 phone-sets out of a hundred people.

Another "radiant spot" is that the competition in IT industry has taken on a new pattern. Last May saw the formal execution of the reform in telecommunication system, in which six major operators cropped up in competition. They are China Telecom, Netcom. Unicom, China Mobile and ChinaSat and China Tietong. Notwithstanding, this year also see epoch-making events in the IT business operation, i.e. China Mobile's replacement of China Telecom, becoming the biggest IT operator in China. China's IT industry bade adieu to the past, a situation in which one operator carved off a larger part of the market. But now none of the six operators cuts a share of over 50 percent.

The 3rd "radiant spot" is China Unicom's CDMA being put into operation. Starting from Jan.8, China Unicom has brought into operation its CDMA mobile communication net. It has launched a marketing-offensive on a large scale in the country having gone over turmoil in shortage of cellular phone-sets and introduced into the mobile phone market a new mechanism of competition, thereby giving the consumers another choice.

The 4th "radiant spot" is that the color TV industry has come to a full revitalization. The past few years saw the color TV industry being landed in a difficult plight but this year finds it boomed up, turning the negative increase in output and sales into positive, showing an obvious recovery and booming-up. The output and sales in the last 10 months came to some 44 million sets with sales always heralding the production, of which the export came to 14.376 million sets, an increase of 55.7 percent as against the same period of last year. This accounts for 32 percent of the total TV-set production volume, the best result in the last few years. With plasma, rear-projection, wide-screen, high-clarity and LCD TV-sets being by and by brought into the market they enjoy good graces of the people, instigating a great rise in economic effect.

The 5th "radiant spot" is that the consuming electronic products have turned out to be the major products motivating the increase of IT industry. During the last 10 months, the contribution made by the consuming electronic products came to 40 percent of the economic increase in the IT industry, overtaking that of the products for investment. The increase ratio showed a rise of 18.6 percentage points, with the sales volume of color-TV, DVD, VCD and Hi-fi to tell a respective increase of 39, 62.6 and 22.2 percent.

The 6th "radiant spot" is the big increase in the exportation of electronic IT products. The last 10 months saw the export of the electronic IT products reach 72.55 billion US dollars. It is a rise of 40 percent as against the same period of last year, a 19-percentage-points higher than the average in national foreign trade, taking up 27.6 percent of the total export volume in foreign trade. And the yearly export value is expected to reach 85 billion US dollars with an increase of 30.7 percent as compared with that of last year.
