Premier Zhu Meets HK, Macao Chief Executives
Premier Zhu Rongji respectively met Tung Chee Hwa, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), and Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), Monday in Beijing.

Tung Chee Hwa, who is paying his annual duty visit to Beijing, briefed the premier on social and economic developments in Hong Kong over the past year.
Premier Zhu expressed his satisfaction with the work of Tung and the HKSAR government over the past year.
He said the HKSAR government under the leadership of Tung and with the support of the central government had maintained the region's economic and social stability since China resumed sovereignty of the region five years ago.

Hong Kong had also maintained its position as an international trade, finance and shipping center, Zhu noted.
The premier said the central government would take every possible measure to promote Hong Kong's prosperity and stability.
The chief executive thanked the premier for his strong support for the region's development.
During the meeting with Ho Hau Wah, who is also on an annual duty visit, Zhu said he was fully satisfied with the work of Edmund Ho and the Macao SAR government over the past year, especially in maintaining social stability, improving administrative efficiency and developing the economy.
Zhu said he hoped the SAR government would keep long-term improvements in mind and promote further economic growth.
Edmund Ho gave an account of the SAR's development and changes over the past year to Premier Zhu and thanked him for the central government's support.
