The State Council held its 66th plenary session Friday in Beijing, presided over by Premier Zhu Rongji, to discuss a draft regulation on restoring reclaimed land to forest.

The session held that turning reclaimed land back into forest is China's key ecological project. Since the project was kicked off in 1999 on a trial basis, about 5.9 million hectares of land have been restored to forest.

The session decided that the draft regulation will be amended and later promulgated by the State Council.
