Chinese President Jiang Zemin sent a congratulatory message on Tuesday to the Chinese delegation that won the bid for Shanghai to host the World Exposition 2010.

"I'm delighted to learn that our country has won the bid to host the World Exposition 2010 at the 132nd General Assembly of the Bureau of International Expositions. I wish to express my cordial congratulations and extend my sincere greetings to all the members of the delegation and all the comrades who have taken partin the bid efforts.
"The World Exposition is a grand assembly that promotes the economic, social, cultural and scientific exchanges and cooperation between different countries, and enhances the advancement of human civilization," said Jiang.
He added that the hosting of the World Exposition 2010 in Shanghai will add new driving forces to China's reforms and opening up and accelerate China's modernization drive. "It will also open up a new window for the world to understand China and for China to become further integrated into the world, as well as provide a new opportunity for us to speed up the endeavor to build an all-round well-off society."
"I hope that all of you would work harder to learn from other countries' successful experience in hosting the World Exposition and make elaborate preparations to turn the Shanghai World Exposition 2010 into a successful, magnificent and unforgettable one," said Jiang.
