The Asian Development Bank will resume its loans to war-torn Afghanistan on Wednesday, after 23 years of interruption, the bank said in a statement on Tuesday.

The board of the Manila-based multinational loan provider will approve the landmark offer, and announce the details on Wednesday, the bank said.

The bank suspended lending operations to Afghanistan in 1979 when wars broke out in the country.

The bank pledged to play a major role in Afghanistan's post-war rehabilitation after the US-led bombing in the country wound up last year.
