Palestinians Warn Against New Israeli Settlement Plan in Hebron

The Israeli army has informed recently 15 families in the West Bank town of Hebron to evacuate their homesto pave the way for demolishing them, Palestinian official sources said.
The sources said the aim of demolishing the 15 houses is to opena new road for Jewish settlers and worshippers to move freely between the settlement of Keryat Arba and the Patriarch area or theIbrahimi Mosque.
They added that the Israeli army has already issued the militaryorders to demolish the houses between Hebron and the settlement.
Palestinian residents in Hebron denied Israeli claims that the houses are empty, adding that 15 Palestinian families who live in the houses will be homeless.
Mustafa Natsheh, mayor of Hebron, told reporters that the housesare inhabited. However, he added that the owners deserted their homes "in fear of the daily aggressive attacks carried out by Israeli settlers on them."
"It is not a matter of destroying houses for opening a road, it is a plan that is part of an Israeli plan in Hebron to expand settlements and impose the Israeli army control on the town," said Natsheh.
Destroying the 15 houses in the town might ignite violence between the Arabs and Jews in the divided town, which was reoccupied following an armed attack two weeks ago by Palestinian militants, in which 12 Israeli soldiers were killed.
More than 140,000 Palestinians live in the town, which is divided into two parts with 80 percent under Palestinian control and the rest 20 percent for settlers under the Israeli control.
