To further enrich and deepen the strategic cooperative partnership between China and Russia is a consistent principle and strategic option of China's foreign policy, Chinese top legislator Li Peng said Monday.

Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), made the remarks when meeting with visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Li said Putin's visit will give new impetus to the sustained and steady development of bilateral ties in the future.

Li spoke highly of the friendly ties between the NPC and the Russian State Duma and Federation Council, noting the NPC is willing to further expand exchanges and continue efforts to promote the good-neighbourly friendly cooperative relations.

Putin said members of the State Duma and Federation Council unanimously agree to further Sino-Russian relations and firmly support the Russian government to push forward bilateral ties, with joint efforts from the two nations.
